Its not often that i come across an artist as driven and passionate about music as RQM. I was recently sent the press release for his latest Ep ‘Colors Fade’ and i have to say it is probably the most inspiring project i have ever come across. You can really feel that everyone who has taken part in this project has aimed at bringing something interesting and different to the table. RQM has created a package which is not just sonically stunning but also visually beautiful.
The Artwork:
“This is a very important release for me – it marks a period of musical independence so I wanted to celebrate it with something very special and essentially give my fans a real gift. REMED is one of my favorite artists and I respect the brother for the soul he injects into his paintings so a collab was a natural movement. ” RQM
RQM teamed up with the fantastic street artist Remed to create a limited edition run of 84 7″ records. Remed turned 84 7″ individual pieces into a single painting/puzzle outlining the entire life span of a relationship (a theme that runs through the Colors Fade EP). The idea behind this project was to take the concept of “limited edition” literally and to create something very unique and affordable for the fans. The entire package consists of a Remed hand painted cover, the ‘Colors Fade’ 7″ record and a Carhartt limited edition t-shirt designed by Remed.
The Music:
RQM has managed to source some truly amazing talent to help produce the ‘Colors Fade’ Ep. Check out all the tracks here and download those which are highlighted in black:
RQM – ATOMIC FUSION (PRODUCED BY SIRIUSMO)
Atomic Fusion has to be my favorite track of the bunch. Produced by one of the most innovative electronic dance music makers Siriusmo this track is eye opening. To attempt to confine this song to a certain genre is close to impossible : borrowing aspects from Hip-Hop//Electronica// Dubstep//Pop, this song is simply mindblowing. The Synth work on this track is fantastic, from the soft and melodic arpeggios to the tight saturated bass; everything has its place.
RQM – ATOMIC FUSION (SON OF KICK REMIX)
The Son Of A Kick remix is a heavy hitting dub tune with a more stripped down approach than the rest of the remixes. The roaring bass really sucks you in deep with the beautiful cascading arpeggios. I picture this working perfectly in the clubs from 3am onwards..its deep engrossing atmospheric music that just gets you going!
RQM – COLORS FADE (CHRIS DE LUCA REMIX)
The Chris De Luca remix is a deep dubstep number that is absorbing in every way. The winding synths give a haunting feel that is utterly appealing – the production details on this one are immaculate although on the first run the tune appears utterly simplistic.
RQM – COLORS FADE (PRODUCED BY THE GLUE KIDS)
‘Colors Fade’ Glue Kids remix veers into more commercial direction: huge hip hop beats and 90’s style synths makes this tune perfect chilled afternoons.
The JF remix is another dub affair with hints of Reggae. I love the jagged choking synths that compliment RQM’s lyrics giving this song a grimey feel.
The entire Ep can be bought here (Digital) and here (physical limited edition version including artwork and t-shirt).
I rarely feel compelled to write in such length about anything but i feel so utterly inspired by this entire project. I suppose it stems from my disillusionment with the current state of the music business. The digital realm is far too impersonal and disembodied and does not allow for artists to wholeheartedly express their ideas. I feel such work should be strongly supported and to to do so: go and order the limited edition version here (I have). RQM in my personal opinion has really made something unique as well as providing his fans with something they can truly cherish for the rest of their lives! I hope you all enjoy this as much as i do.

Odissi just continues to look amazing while delivering top-class vocals on huge releases. This one ‘Empty Vodka Bottles’ is a late-night techno roller with her sultry vocals telling stories of obsessional love gone wrong. The original and three accompanying remixes, out on Lot49, are all solid and you can listen to them all below.
For all its tendencies towards the more minimal end of electro, the Kid Blue remix has got my vote. The production on here is in a class of its own, and the coldness of the vocals is complemented nicely by the intricacy of the slowly-building synth patterns, making this perfect for a peak-hour minimal set.
Get the whole tidy package at Beatport, meaning the tunes, obviously!

Hyper is undoubtedly one of the most intriguing names in the breaks business. Whether it’s his electrifying DJ sets or live band collaborations, you’d be mad to journey through your clubbing career without catching this guy at least once playing out. Luckily for us, he’s got a release coming out on 8th June with Kilowatt Recordings and you can download a nice little edit of it below, after reading what he has to say about yurts, live music in clubs and time travel.
You’ve got a CV that sees your career kickstarted through your mastery of mixtape compilations. How do you think this has affected your current style?
It flicks between me being inspired by that side through periods when I really want to write club music and then being in a mood to write more musical, 3 minute song based tracks. The latter is inspired by a love of seeing bands and punk rock/indie as a kid and the former from a love of DJing and clubbing from my teens. I like having more than one string to my bow.
Tell us a little about the thinking behind your live act, and some of the highlights of it.
The live act was inspired by my first artist album, ‘We Control’. I wanted to to get away from strictly writing club music at that point
and bring in live instrumentation which I felt would only really work from a live perspective and thats how it came about. It’s much more about raw energy and a totally different dynamic to DJing. I find that attractive. Highlights are our guitarist and singer who are both really talented and energetic. I think we show that you really can do live dance music.
Would you ever want the whole clubscene to go totally “live,” with the death of the DJ and the return of live performances?
Nah, that would kill the spirit of it. Variety is the spice of life and all…
Which music blogs do you read?
Noiseporn!
Could you tell us a little about your new release and your hopes for it?
This is the next installment really of whats going on in my world. Myself and JHz have a load of stuff ready to go and this nicely follows up from ‘Computer Says No’ which, 2 years later is now all over Radio 1 and MTV etc as soundbeds. Weird world. I’d say the follow up to ‘Pitch Bitch’ will be hot on the heels and you can expect more rock dance fusion…
Do submariners eat fish?
Be stupid not to.
We’re driving to Mongolia this summer for Save The Children, if we could arrange for a giant yurt and some punters, would you come out and play for our arrival party in Mongolia?
Yep, call the travel agent!
You’re on! Other than that, what are your plans for the summer?
Writing and writing. I’m feeling pretty creative right now and my production has gone to new levels I feel. Expect 2 new collabs with Vandal on top of the JHz collabs and a new Hyper EP toward the end of the summer.
Make three wishes for the next ten years of your life. We’ll have a word with our fairy godmother and make sure they come true, so they better be good!
I wish people stop talking about MP’s expenses and get on with the real issues. Paying off my mortgage would be rather nice..And generally feel happy, creative and still doing what I’m doing…Can I have the invention of time travel too? Go on..
Noise Porn waves magic porn wand (yes, we do have one) and Hyper disappears back to 1674, never to be seen again…

Supatronix Records are back with a new release from UK breakbeater Ash Hunt and to celebrate they’re giving away a Public Enemy mash-up as a taster. Believe us when we tell you, this has been tested under extreme dancefloor conditions over the past few weeks and came out top marks in every category. It may be an overused acapella but this is no ordinary mash-up. See what you think!

John Roman pulls together the greatest names in the game right now for this mash-up remix of The Bloody Beetroots, Laidback Luke and A-Trak. Unsurprisingly, it’s large.

Hungarian producer TMX gets his bassface on with this remix of Yuksek, adding in some fierce basslines and wobbly rave to transform this into a heady dancefloor destroyer.

Pop and lock Records has just released its 5th installment and its a keeper!!! Label boss and all around ninja Myagi drops 2 killer cuts of a tune called ‘Monolith’ and brings in some serious remix support with the likes of Jake Chec. Myagi had already well outdone himself with the origional proggy/electro cut of this tune but, not one to leave well enough alone, he spruces it up a bit with his rightfully deemed ‘acid funk remix’! Both of these tunes are as good as gold and the Progressive styles of Jake Chec just make this a all around killer bunch of tunes! This release is available ONLY at Beat Port right now and should no doubt be selling like hotcakes already…. so what are you still doing here….. go….GO! Actually, stick around cause there’s lots more cool news with this one!
