3 IS THE MAJIK NUMBER…………
Yes folks, March 12th celebrates the end of Az-Tech’s third full year tearing up The Caves in Edinburgh, and what a thoroughly banging time it’s been. Since March 2007, Az-Tech has tried to push the envelope of Edinburgh clubbing to embrace a whole new dimension of late-night debauchery, bringing you the finest in DJ talent from the length and breadth of Britain and beyond, and boasting one of the best, most up-for-it and most faithful crowds in the city.
Looking back over three legendary years’ worth of artists, it was hard to pick a favourite that would bring all the perfect ingredients for this party. After much debating and happy memoirs, one special set from October 2008 stood out beyond the rest… French master of his craft and Noise Porn favourite Maelstrom’s last set at the Caves was a mind-blowing journey through more styles than you could shake a dusty vinyl at, definitely one of the freshest and most forward-thinking sets we’d heard in a long long while… Performing live, he whipped through an astounding back-catalogue of breaks, beats & bumps, flipping tunes on their heads and barely stopping to catch a breath- those still standing at the end went off the hook…
The past two years have seen Maelstrom launch his own label in his homeland, and bash out a monstrous amount of extra-high-grade tuneage. He’s taken in a tour of the southern hemisphere and is one of the busiest of the continent’s dance artists. Never one to rest on his laurels, Maelstrom has also fashioned an alternative identity for himself, playing and producing up-tempo funk worldwide under the alias of “Misterstrom”… for a sneak peak at both sides of the alter ego, check the two brand-spanking new mixes below.

Hostage is back with another banging summer tune (it must be that 1 month of sun we get in Edinburgh). ‘I Get High’ works on a fantastic contrast between the beautiful vocal and stringed melodies and that oh so tasty Hostage bassline madness! The intro makes me reminisce over past summers with its cheeky vocal sample and dancetastic drums but this quickly escalates into a choppy dubstep rythm that forces you to hump the nearest speaker. This track is already set for big things, receiving much love from DJ Craze who included ‘I Get High’ in his top 10 tracks of August! -braaaaaaaap braaaap
Hostage shall be playing with Boys Noize on the 27th of August at City Nightclub, this looks to be one of the most exciting nights of the festival.
Buy your tickets now on Ticketweb because they are sure to sell out quick.
Competition Time
If you are in and about London this Friday (7th), be sure to catch Hostage playing alongside Lee Mortimer at Always Fridays at The Egg!
Here is a little mix Not Shy threw together to coincide with a competition they are holding to win tickets for this Friday. They are giving away 2 entries to the event for anyone who can name the most tracks in the mini mix.
To enter: email notshy@thisisnotarave.com with the Subject heading “I’d like some free rave please” with the tracklistings.

Calling all DJs north of the border! SNO!zone Glasgow proudly present their next SNO!storm event on Friday 7th August and are searching for a new crop of DJs to provide the soundtrack to this unique event. After the success of the first competition they are looking for even more entries, across more genres, to help scout out the best DJs Scotland has to offer.
Whether you’re a bedroom DJ, resident or headliner, this is your chance to get involved! All you need to do is submit a 30 minute mix of tunes, in any style, that you reckon have what it takes to lift the roof off the 200m indoor snow slope over at Xscape, Braehead. Three winners will get a 1.5hr set at the top of the slope at SNO!storm as riders take off from the rails and kickers below. They’ll also get a drinks rider, slope time vouchers and a package of goodies courtesy of Rubadub Records. Last time round the guys got a great package of T-shirts, headphones and vouchers, so it’s well worth a shot! Make sure you get your mixes in by Friday 31st July! Mr. Angel Breaks is a promoter and DJ from London, and also a big fan of the blog (always nice to kick off an email with a smattering of flattery, take note you scallywags). Once again Noise Porn has come up trumps and has blagged 5 tickets to give away to our readers to see one of the most exciting dance acts in history! The night is next Friday in London Town at Jamm.
As you’ve hopefully heard, we’ve been asked to take part in the inaugural Blogwars – which sees the UK “blogerati” going head-to-head to present a DJ set from Orbital, just before they perform live at some of the biggest festivals in the world this summer (Global Gathering, Big Chill and Get Loaded)
We’ve got tickets to sell at the bargain price of £12 (they’re up to £15 on the night) and you can grab a limited number of those here
But if you’re a wiley bugger you’ll know the best way to get tickets is for free, and that’s why we’re giving four guestlist places away!
To get hold of these, just answer the following question, emailing the answer to iamnoiseporn@googlemail.com with the subject line “ORBITAL COMP.” Two correct winners will be chosen and notified by email, and you’ll get to take a mate along with you too. Cashback.
QUESTION – What is Phil Hartnoll’s brother called?
For full details of the amazing line-up, check out the Facebook event and see you all next Friday!
