Wanted to give a heads up to an awesome track which is gonna drop soon, only got the video at the moment but it’s the Bar9 mix of Sidney Samson feat. Lady Bee ‘Shutup & let it go’ coming out on Cr2 Records on he 25th of April. This release is the follow up to ‘Riverside’ which was undeniably massive whether you loved it or hated it. The Bar9 mix is big bass heavy dubstep at its best and follows suit from their recent remix of ‘I want you’, which has been getting big respect from Mary Anne Hobbs on her thursday night show for Radio 1!

Quick heads up about a wicked party tomorrow night at The Big Chill House in London called ‘You can call me Pelski’. It comes alongside the Pelski blog, which has been posting upfront music for 3 years now. They haven’t fallen short for their first line up either including headliners Rustie and Roska who have been hugely influential in pushing the UK bass scene forward and shaping the urban dubstep-dominated sound of 2009 and 2010.
Rustie is the critically acclaimed producer and DJ who, alongside Hudson Mohwake, Joker and Zomby, is at the forefront of a mutated hybrid of wonky hip-hop and dubstep. Kode 9’s Hyperdub snapped him up for his now famous remix of Zomby’s ‘Spliff Dub’, and, in no time at all, Rustie was remixing the likes of Modeselektor and Various Production, before going on to smash everyone’s impossibly high expectations with a string of highly praised original productions for the Warp and Wireblock. Rustie’ll be setting the crowd alight with a DJ set filled with shuffling dubstep beats, his trademark layering of arpeggios, skittering percussion, jagged bass and no doubt his taste for sophisticated US hip hop. Bound to be electrifying.
Roska is often attributed with pioneering the UK Funky scene (emerging out of a culminating collision of future garage, grime and dubstep). As the genre picked up pace in 2009, so too did Roska’s production output – he produced some of the dancefloor tracks of the year and lent his remix skills to Zed Bias, Untold and Four Tet. Roska’ll be bringing his penchant for energetic garage-influenced house music to the ones and twos. Expect tough beats and funky kicks merged with the skippy, crashing percussion of garage, but with the soul and tempo of house. Support comes from none other than London’s up-and-comers The Boog-A-Loo Crew.

Ahead of Justin Robertson’s gig at the second installment of Musiq Concrete this Saturday at the Lightbox, I caught up with him to talk about how his career has managed to last so long!
You’ve been in the dance industry for a while now how have you managed to stand the test of time?
Well as long as the music continues to excite me, then its easy! its such a great position to be in, to earn a living out of something you love. I can’t imagine doing anything else.
What has been the biggest change from when you first started DJing to today?
Well just the massive explosion in electronic music and the proliferation of sub genres, when i first started everyone pretty much played the same records! Because there just weren’t that many producers out there. This was a time before drum n bass , electro, breaks, or anything like that had been formulated! electronic music and music technology really opened up music for all, it was a proper revolution, more so than punk ever was. So now i am gald to say the scene stays fresh as people see new ways to use the technology to create their own sound.
You seem to carry different DJ styles and persona’s varying on where you’re playing is this challenging to keep up with or a welcome outlet?
I am a music sponge, i love to soak! I think its hard to hear everything thats coming out, but I love to dig about for bits, so its a pleasure really, a great way to pass the day!
Are there any current producers who you think could be massive?
A young techno producer called Colin John, leftside wobble on the disco re-edit tip, zombie disco squad and hannah holland will go big time, hot city and l-vis 1990 continue to float my barge .
What do you see as the next steps for yourself as a producer/DJ?
My new deadstock 33’s album is nearly done, new single out on paper recordings and is it balearic -balearic psych folk house! so up for that, working on some raucous dancefloor stuff, and I am involved in a lot of song writing these days, as well as a busy remix schedule, so happily busy.
As you’re such a world renowned DJ and have played at vast range of clubs, can you name a favourite? Or a favourite country to play in, is your home town of London still up there?
you can’t beat a london rave up. Bugged out is still my fave crowd love it!
I adore Argentina, I’ve had some amazing times there, especially playing with the chemical brothers in a mad rain storm!

Electro. drum loving producer Audiofun who is signed to SouthernFried has put together a mix to go alongside the release of his new ep which is available to buy from Beatport now; we also caught up with him to see what’s going on in 2010.
How did you first get into DJing?
I’ve been big into electronic music since I was around 16. When I was 18 I started going to a club in Ireland called Lush! The atmosphere is always superb there and I just knew I wanted to be part of it.
What would you say defines your sound in comparison to other djs at the moment?
I’m still having trouble defining my sound actually! I like all types of music and so I try and incorporate the styles I like into the music I make and play. My sets at the minute revolve around a mixture of the dutch type sound, big bass and big drums. Drums are definitely my favourite element of a track.
Is it hard to remain individual when there are so many budding ‘electro’ producers trying to make it these days?
Definitely. It’s hard to remain individual but it’s even harder to get noticed. There are so many talented young guys out there. There’s a list as long as my arm of other young producers/DJs that I like that haven’t broken through fully yet but definitely deserve too. Everyone and their mum DJs now so it takes something extra to get through now than it did 5/6 years ago. It’s good for music though, pushing boundaries and making people work outside of their comfort sounds and develop themselves.
You’re signed to Southern Fried, which are undeniably making waves at the moment how did this connection come about?
Yea Southern Fried is awesome; it’s been my favourite label out there since I started getting into EDM. It all came about through another DJ – Tonka. He had an EP signed to Southern Fried and asked me to remix his “Jack Track” song. I did and the label liked it, which led to another remix for Last Japan. Same scenario as before – label liked it, which led to a remix for Malente and they asked for 4 originals too. Happy marriage ever since!
Any talks of collaborations with your SouthernFried family? Or indeed any other artists?
My new EP will be out in May/June – it’s going to be 2 originals and 2 great remixes! I’m just putting the finishing touches on it now. There was supposed to be a collabo on it with an electro duo who I’m really feeling at the minute but it fell through because they have an original EP out at the same time and their label wouldn’t allow it. I’m talking with a few people about collaborations now but nothing set in stone. I’m more focussed on the remixes I have to finish up first but definitely when I get everything I have now finished, I’ll look into some collabos.
What’s the biggest track you’re playing out at the moment?
LA Riots are killing it now. My 2 biggest tracks at the minute are “LA Riots – The Drop” and “Sound Of Stereo – Zipper (LA Riots Remix)” alongside a few of my own ofcourse haha!
Plans for 2010?
Get out and gig a lot more outside of the UK! Hit a few of the festivals in the summer. My second EP on Southern Fried. I’ve just finalized another residency with the guys behind the legendary Hacienda in Manchester. Work on a live show for the end of year. Its looking pretty busy!!!

First friday of the new year in London and no surprises Fabric has got a ridiculous line up that just cannot be resisted. Room 3 in particular this week is showcasing their new release ‘Elevator Music Vol I’, the first of many more to come. The series comes as a response to the soar in popularity of electronic music over the past 12 months and documents some of the staffs favourite producers and their previously unreleased records. Here’s a preview video put together to give you an idea of what the CD has to offer:
fabric presents Elevator Music: Vol. 1 from Fabric London on Vimeo.
Room 1 similarly doesn’t fall short with garage legend Todd Edwards heading up the bill, and Glaswegian rising stars Hudson Mohawke (who recently graced the essential mix list) and Rustie. With Joy Orbison, dBridge and Instra:mental also present who said January was for detoxing?! Certainly not Fabric!
