The Subs

It’s no secret that I’m often partial to a bit of banging electro, so I was delighted to find this festive mix from The Subs in my inbox the other day. Incase you’re not familiar with The Subs, let me fill you in a bit. They are composed of Belgian duo Koen Leroux and Wiebe Locuffier (initially residents at the Culture Club in Ghent, which was the springboard for 2manydjs amongst others), and Finnish DJ Jeroen De Pessemier. Since forming in 2006 they’ve been tearing up the club scene, releasing bigtime euphoria tunes such as Kiss My Trance and From Dusk Till Dawn.  All this brings us to the end of 2009, where they’ve supplied us with this roundup of what they think is hot at the moment. Just the thing for getting in the mood for new years revelry! And in the holiday spirit they’ve also given out two of their remixes from the mix, for your festive enjoyment!

From all of us here at Noise Porn, we hope you have a great new years and an even better 2010.

Sticky K

The high octane tunes of Californian producer/DJ extrordinare Sticky K are certainly not to be overlooked. I’m almost ashamed to admit that I wasn’t clued up on him until his tunes arrived in my inbox (what with him having remixed such heavyweights as Crookers, Royksopp and Daft Punk amongst others, in addition to doing a guest mix for Kissy’s BBC show earlier in the year), but having heard him I’m definitely going to keep my ear to the ground for more.

His style is hard to pidgeonhole as each remix has its own distinctive feel and sound. Needless to say, they’re high pitched, fast paced, and very good. His own productions are also top-class, and you can check ‘em over out at his MySpace (I’d especially recommend ‘The Weirdo’, which you can also find as part of his 20 minute BBC mix right here).

Daft Punk – Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (Sticky K Remix)

Crookers – Put Your Hands On Me (Sticky K Remix)

Major Lazer – Jump Up ft. Superhype (Sticky K Remix)

SAVOY

SAVOY

Blinding us straight out Colorado comes SAVOY with their first full album release. Recently, they’ve been making waves in their local scene and are constantly increasing their homegrown fanbase. The hype avalanche definitely seems to be starting to gain traction, and rightly so.

Not only is their début album ‘Automatic’ packed full of undiscovered dirty electronic goodness, but it’s being put out by the band for free! Expect to find premium production values and more than enough bang for your buck. To give you guys a taster of what to expect, here’s a couple of their remixes that show off their sound, as well as one of the tracks off their album. I know there’s a lot of Peanuts Club remixes out there, but this one by SAVOY and J Flash really left quite an impression.

Their full album (consisting of nothing but original productions) can be found over on their website for legal download (in 320kbps quality too!)

SAVOY – Welcome To Jamrock RMX

Noob & Brodinski – Peanuts Club (SAVOY & J Flash Remix)

SAVOY – Rhubarb

You can follow SAVOY either at their site, or over on MySpace, Twitter, or Facebook, being the internet-savvy group that they are. With the quality of stuff they’ve released to date, you can bet that we’ll be keeping a close eye on them.

Jokers of the Scene

Another heads up for any readers here in Edinburgh: As you’ve probably guessed from the flier above, on the 16th October, The Cabaret Voltaire are going to be hosting new night Axis, headlined by none other than Canadian electro duo Jokers Of The Scene! And if you’re not familiar with them, let me give you a little taster in the form of two quality free tracks for you all. First up is their take on Burns – Turbo, with it’s raw, dirty synth-driven basslines, which give way to haunty melodic buildups, only to throw you straight back into the deep end.

Burns – Turbo (Jokers Of The Scene Remix)

Next we’ve got the darker, brooding sounds of their Mika – We Are Golden (Jokers Of The Scene ‘Are Not Who You Think They Are’) remix. It’s got an almost menacing undertone permeating the entire track, sending shivers down my spine!

Mika – We Are Golden (Jokers Of The Scene ‘Are Not Who You Think They Are’ Remix)

And to top it all off, we’ve got the video of their latest track (that tore up the Hype Machine charts when it dropped), Baggy Bottom Boys embedded below for you, followed by the full blurb for their upcoming night at The Cabaret Voltaire (just click on “more..“). We’ll be out in full force, and should all go according to plan, will have a video interview with the Jokers up for you guys after the night. Hope to catch some Noise Porn readers down there!

Coalition

vent-red3

***Sunday October 11th 2009***
***Sneaky Petes. Cowgate***

This is mostly for all Edinburgh-based Noise Porners, but even if you’re not from our neck of the woods you should definetly check out the mixes at the end of this post. If you’ve not heard of Coalition before (and shame on you if you haven’t, its one of the best weekly nights), it’s every Sunday at the intimite venue of Sneaky Petes, down on the Cowgate. Music policy is usually pretty flexible, with an almost guaranteed rinseout of dark dnb at some point during the night!

Sunday after next (the 11th October) isn’t just your standard Coalition, however. Title billing is occupied by VENT, who are Dan Havers (DJ Samurai / DC Breaks) and Sam Ashwell (Diagoro / Abstrakt Knights.  Their massive year so far has seen them nominated for best breakthrough act at Breakspoll, and they’ve graced the likes of Fabric, Glade and Glastonbury (from which we’ve got a live recording, down below!) over the summer months.

I like to think very carefully before using swear words, only using then when I really have to, so it really makes an impact. With that in mind, these guys are fucking excellent, do your ears a service and check them out.

“Okay, so how much do I have to pay to hear these musical prodigies live?”, I hear you ask. You see, that’s the best bit. It’s completely free. Zip. Nada.

In addition to VENT, Coalition resident ameldrum and ENO of Xplicit will be taking up support duties. Couldn’t ask for more. Hope to see all the Edinburgh crew down there in force!

Cold Blank

I know I’ve been letting my post rate slide lately, and there’s been quite the clusterfuck of emails piling up in my inbox. Rest assured that once I finish with my work experience tomorrow, I’ll be getting right back on it. In the meantime, however, here’s a complete banger of a remix courtesy of Californian duo Cold Blank. There’s been a lot of takes on Pon De Floor getting put out there but this has got to be the cream of the crop, no doubt about it. If you like the track, make sure you head over to the Major Lazer remix competition site and vote for it!

Major Lazer – Pon De Floor (Cold Blank Remix)

You can also catch a video of Myles Dyson dropping this mix at The Lost City of Atlantis 2009 just below, looks rather epic.

My Favourite Robot

I don’t know about you guys, but if I had to pick one robot out of the ever-increasing hordes of mechanised beings that are readying themselves to take over from humanity, it’d have to be My Favourite Robot. If for no other reason then simply because of the chillaxed genius that is their track “My Guitar Gently Creeps”, a reworking of the timeless weeping of guitars that goes by a similar name. The Canadian electro-tech duo seem to have sprung up out of nowhere to blindside me with a press release under their new label, My Favourite Robot Records.

Thanks to the generosity of these guys, we can bring you a 320 track from their debut album “We Come In Pieces”, as well as a remix by fellow Canadian Pan/tone. Their debut release takes the dynamic DJ duo, who found their first footing in the Montreal club scene of the 90’s, and sticks them in the producers chairs. I think the results speak for themselves.

My Favourite Robot – While My Guitar Gently Creeps (Original Mix)

My Favourite Robot – Modest Goddess (Pan/tone Remix)

You can find their label page over on Beatport. They also have a kickass website that’s chock-full of interactivity and information about them. They’ve obviously put a lot of time and thought into it, and I’d go as far as to say it blows the website of a lot of other producers/labels out of the water. Well worth checking out!
