zeds dead

DC and Hooks are ZEDS DEAD. They first hooked up in 2004 and formed Mass Productions, a hiphop outfit that catered to the digging in the crates sampling school of hiphop. In the summer of 2009, the two launched their second collaboration – ZEDS DEAD – turning up the bpm and aiming the bass-lines at the dance-floor.

Zeds Dead is currently working on several EP’s and remix projects, while rocking sets around the Toronto area and hosting their bi-monthly jam at 751 Queen called “BassMentality”. Plans for a Canadian/US tour are in the works, but in the meantime, keep your eyes open for some upcoming collaborations with Canada’s best homegrown talent, as well as some official releases over the next few months.

I first heard about these guys through some Canadian friends of mine and was blown away! I immediately scanned the internet to see what kind of coverage they had got on the blogs and found that they were relatively unknown. I think these guys are my favourite producers of 2009 (bold i know), listen to the seriously intense basslines and you will understand what heavy really means. These guys really know how to produce to a high standard, everything sounds crystal clear with some savagely fat bass to boot. Zeds Dead’s sound sits somewhere between electro and dubstep and is pure high energy bassline madness!

Zeds Dead’s remix of Radioheads ‘Pyramid Song’ will make you understand how brutal a sound they can achieve. The slow haunting piano riff builds and builds and drops into a tirade of bass and womp! This has to be my favourite track by these guys, mixing really heavy instrumentals with Thom Yorke’s vocals creates a really interesting emotional sounding song!

Radiohead – Pyramid Song (Zeds Dead Illuminati Remix)

Doin’ Time is  yet again a slow vocal builder with a more dub beat to it. The drop at around 1.08 is one of the coolest metallic sounding basslines i have heard to date. I love the contrast they achieve with the bouncy basslines and the really hard metallic sounds.

Check it out!!!

Sublime – Doin’ Time (Zeds Dead Summer Grime Remix)

Blue Foundation -Eyes of Fire (Zeds Dead Remix) is definitely a big time banger, the wall of sound distortion with the sweet female vocals make me think of some of the work by Nero with some added chiptune noises! No doubt this is why Skream featured Eyes on Fire in his most recent Stella Sessions mix. BANGING

Blue Foundation -Eyes on Fire (Zeds Dead Remix)

This one is for the Star Wars fans out there, using Darth Vaders breathing sound as a percussive instrument works really well with the absolutely savage warping bass. *DJs this will undoubtably make the crowd skank like crazy!

Zeds dead – dark side dub (original mix)

Watch this space as im sure we gonna be hearing tonnes more from these guys!
