Fantastic and intriguing news from the folk at Subdrive Media. They’ve started their own open-source digital label, in an effort to make the music process more interactive between musicians, bloggers, and fans. As a result, they’ve decided that the most logical thing to do would be to sell high-quality stems from every one of their singles.
But why buy the stems if so many people give them away? For one, the artists make 100% of the profit, they don’t touch those profits. Secondly, people can do anything they want with it as long as they don’t claim the track as their own. And finally, it gives the general public, not just professionals, the ability to try their hand at a high-quality remix. Most importantly, if the results are interesting enough, they’ll include them in a follow-up Remix EP and the remixer gets a percentage of the sales. This isn’t a contest, they will be doing this with every release.
Here’s their first signing, New York-based producer Terror Dactel. For the past 4 months he’s been working on his massive debut, and the result is nothing less than that, massive. The track is a big room anthem, not hard enough to turn you off, but big enough to get the kids pumped. The kicks are thick and the main build and drop are absolutely epic.
