Just a quick heads up that the new Fabriclive CD which dropped into the grubby mitts of Noise Porn some weeks ago (gloat!) will soon be available to FabricFirst members (24th November) and in the shops 1st December. Despite the title it’s been mixed by Sinden.
Sinden & Switch first hooked up two years ago to form Get Familiar at Fabric, described as “an anything goes eclectic club music blaze of the best in everything forward-thinking and party – from the booty popping sounds of Baltimore Club Music and Rio’s Baile Funk to JA’s upfront dancehall riddims, hyperactive hiphop to House/Electro and everything that’s good in-between.”
To put that into some sort of guest DJ context, Get Familiar has hosted since it’s formation in January 06, South Rakkas Crew, Buraka Som Sistema, Spank Rock, Bondo do Role, Diplo, A-Trak, Toddla T, Hot Chip and others.
So that’s the sound, how’s the compilation? They’ve definitely succeeded in their mission to meld world music with dance music. Compared to the usual Fabriclive experience of upfront techno or futuristic electro, this feels more like a journey through Africa and South America but the underlying house keeps the mix firmly on the dancefloor. We’re just being invited to step slightly outside our comfort zone and discover what the rest of the world has to offer. Sinden’s remix of Township Funk and tracks from Scottie B etc. are prime examples of this.
