Happy Halloween to all! Hope tonight is gonna be fun, here’s a quick heads up for some parties in London and Edinburgh you should be heading down to.
First up, it’s TCR (Thursday Club Recordings) 15th Birthday at Fabric and to celebrate label boss Rennie Pilgrem is throwing a big ‘un!
Without Rennie Pilgrem’s TCR there would be no Nu Skool Breaks, no Friction with Adam Freeland & Tayo, no HUM with Meat Katie, no Breaksday at The Glade Festival, no Stir. So this is important shit yeah?
To celebrate the fact that they are 15 years old some of their most important tracks are being remixed and re-released alongside the originals. ‘Morpheus’ by Koma & Bones. ‘Black Widow’ by Rennie Pilgrem & Uberzone. ‘Purple Monkey’ by JDS and more will be unleashed over the rest of the year
So tonight head down to Fabric and hit Room 2 to enjoy the following, in honour of fifteen years of filthy breaks!
Rennie Pilgrem & MC Chickaboo
Koma & Bones
JDS
General Midi
Andrea Lai
If you’re with Noise Porn freezing your ass off in Edinburgh however, we strongly suggest you head down to Cabaret Voltaire to be thoroughly entertained by Evil Nine and A Skillz at Sugarbeat Club, as well as by residents Utah Saints. Here’s the flyer blurb, keep it SPOOKY!
“They’ re not evil and there’s only two of them, but other than not living up to their randomly chosen yet aesthetically pleasing name Sugarbeat favourites Tom Beaufoy and Pat Pardy in no way disappoint. Having recently dropped their second artist album the Zombie fuelled ‘They Live’ they further push their distinctly individual sound, who better to add a ghoulish edge to our Halloween night. Their fresh, energetic approach to dj sets has drawn huge crowds in the USA, Australia, Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, China as well as leading to a residency at Fabric nightclub in London back in the UK .
On the night they are joined by Finger Lickin’s very own A.Skillz. Using his incredible deck talents and unique productions A.Skillz has established himself as the one of the scenes big players. He is constantly full of surprises and armed to the teeth with his own edits and remixes to ensure the party goes off. We always look forward to A.Skillz taking his turn on the Sugarbeat decks and we think it is impossible not to shake what your mamma gave ya whilst this man is playing.”

Brighton Breaks crew has been behind some of the baddest breaks tunes EVER! They dont disappoint this time either with a solid release from Kickflip featuring a Cut la Roc remix and a timeless sample from the Beasties. Check it out!
Kickflip - Ropeshaker: Proper installment from Brighton breaks here with Big man KickFlip! This tune starts of with a funky beat and steps into a “shake ya rump” breakdown before dropping in classic Kickflip style with a live feel to the bass and heavy step to the beat. This tune doesn’t scream peak hour or anything like that, it does however come with the all the requirements to fit ANYWHERE else in a set. The second breakdown has a wicked drop and will be sure to get things going. Proper tuna from the Brighton crew on this one!
Kickflip - Ropeshaker (Cut La Roc RmX): Cut La Roc takes this tune in a completely different direction with 10 times more funk including a well funky guitar sample and a bit of a 4/4 undertone. This one builds up into bass ridden breakdown with strings adding to the tension before dropping into a full on 4/4 beat. This mix seems a bit more tame than the kickflip original, one worth listening to none the less!
This pair of tunes is available at your favorite shop some time in early November so don’t slack on it! Brighton Breaks ONCE AGAIN! MOC!

Soul of Man are a two-piece breaks outfit from the UK, and the masterminds behind Fingerlickin’ Records, who celebrate their tenth birthday this year. To get your toes tapping while you’re reading, there’s a track of theirs down below as well. Noise Porn dodged meteorites, flying cake and a man on an inflatable scooter to get this interview, and here it is! (Justin is one half of SoM, Jem is the other half)
Hey Justin, so how are you feeling after ten years of Fingerlickin’?
I’m feeling good, feeling proud of what we’ve achieved. I mean, times have changed - musically speaking and technology speaking, but the ethos of releasing good music and playing good music is still the same. Our ethos has always been to not take it too seriously, and keep this core element of funk and fun to everything we do.
What have been some of the highlights for you?
Definitely flying out to Australia for the first Field Day, the Snowbombing parties in Australia which we’ve been doing for 5 years now, and the Coronet Theatre night for our 5th Birthday. It was the first time we’d ever had all the artists in the same room which was fantastic. We spent a bomb and threw a great party, and it was great to see so many people turn up just for Fingerlickin’ and not for just another night at Fabric.
Have there been any tough decisions you’ve had to make or tougher times?
Yeah, I mean we started the label as a creative outlet for myself and Jem [other half of Soul of Man] and it was the transition relatively quickly to a business which was quite tricky. Money was never really the intention I guess. We’ve had to sacrifice Soul of Man a lot as well, we’ve been planning to do an artist album for years now but never got round to it. But if we hadn’t taken the time to work on the label, and for example promote the Plumps, then Fingerlickin’ would never have taken off. So in a a way it was worth it.
How did you and Jem meet?
A very long time ago, while the Sunrise parties were going on, the organisers came to organise a Havin’ It In Ibiza compilation for them, so I was working in the office there. Jem was doing the artwork for the albums [he still does the artwork for Fingerlickin’] and we met over a romantic lunch for two. I was a DJ, he had a studio, the rest is history! We set up a label called Spirits of Inspiration and it all went from there.
What advice would you give to younger labels?
it’s difficult because the advice you could give then probably wouldn’t apply now, there was such a huge explosion. I hate using the term but it really was such a “blank canvas” and back then there were no rules as such. I’d probably say musically mix it up a bit more, it’s good to see breaks artists using old funk samples with modern production, and this needs to happen more, that’s the kind of spirit of breaks. But nowadays, I wouldn’t recommend anyone set up a label anyway! People don’t pay for music any more, back then it was vinyl and people paid but now that’s not practical. You’ll make 20% of the revenue now and that’s just not enough to pay the overheads.
Can you tell us a little bit about the birthday tour and where you’re heading?
I can give you this in more detail soon but I think there’s a few dates in Edinburgh, Bristol at Blowpop, Manchester. It’ll be good, and lots more dates tbc!
Thanks for your time and happy birthday!

Enjoy some little fidget monstrosities which Australian label Runt Records sent over - if you like Crookers, Sinden and that lot then get your earholes round these! The Defunct! remix of Ghettoblaster is especially good, so be sure to get that.
Who could forget the first ever Field Day in Oz, or their collaborations with hip-hop legend Kurtis Blow? What about the 5th birthday party at the Coronet Theatre in London or Snowbombing? Plump DJs have released album after album of aural bad-ass-ness, from a Plump Night Out all the way through to Headthrash. Don’t forget Krafty Kuts propelling himself into the superleague with TrickaTechnology, and Lee Coombs, Slyde, Drummatic Twins and label founders Soul of Man have all been bringing smiles to punters faces for years now.
These guys truly are part of the breaks establishment, and to celebrate being so damn old, they’re releasing a limited edition triple CD boxset and embarking on a nationwide ten date tour, cramming the tour bus with their favourite DJs and their record boxes and bringing the Finger Lickin’ experience to a city near you soon. More details on the tour to follow…
For now, enjoy the video tasters below (which are mesmerisingly good and bring back some bingbangbongtastic memories!) and also the download above from the almighty Lee Coombs, sent over to Noise Porn HQ by the ruddy marvellous Finger Lickin’! Happy Birthday!

Much like Mr.NP’s post below mine, lots has come in thru the weekend and I guess 3PM on a sunday is the best time of any to get it out to you guys!
Napt ‘N-Funk Pt2′
NAPT - Work This Out: This tune starts off bass heavy and in official NAPT style takes no time to build into a unique style of tune that can only be described as NAPT’ Beat. This is a glitchy, edit rich tune that grows into a out of control BASS fest! More wicked production from NAPT to keep the N-Funk series one of the most impressive lines of releases for Funkatech to date! Punchy bass plugs through as vocals keep the feeling of the tune light and bouncy, all wrapped up in some solid drums and perfectly crafted breakdowns, that’s right…..you Heard a cowbell!
NAPT - Fortune: This tune has a long melodic intro that gets you wondering exactly how NAPT is gonna make you say WTF? Then as the pace builds you see that its classic NAPT bad ass as usual! This is more of a choppy, tweaked out kinda smasher, but a smasher none the less.
Massive, MASSIVE release from Funkatech on this one! After ‘Gotta have more Cowbell’ absolutely dominated the Beatport charts for so long, NAPT and Funkatech show no mercy with another EPIC pair of tunes! Check these out for real on November 3rd!
Specimen A - ‘Hazardous Material Pt.1′ Is out NOW on Funkatech Records!
Specimen A - Algorithm: As you can expect from any Spec A tune this one starts off SOLID right from the get go. This tune immediately fronts a big room feel and nice spacious bass. When it gets rolling its full on pounding bass and vocal stabs that are sure to get heads banging and fists flying, quick style. Edits come in by the truck load in normal Spec A fashion while groovy synth pads keep you flowin thru the tune in a head banging frenzy. This is a HEAVY rollin tune that is absolutely refreshing to hear! Spec A is, and has always been sick break breakbeat producers and this is no exception. Amazing tune.
Specimen A - Nightmare (Club Mix/Radio Mix/Vocal Mix): What can I say? When a tune is as addicting as this one, you should ABSOLUTELY make 3 mixes of it. This tune comes in a few different flavors and every one is simply wonderful. The club mix flaunts a great blend of this ballad between Miss Trouble, Ken Mac, and MC Incyte. The vocal mix is a full on throw down from all 3 vocal artists and will only be available digitally. The Radio edit is a bit more of exactly what it sounds like, just a more radio friendly version. This tune is great tho. Its full on pounding style breaks with a top notch element of rock flavor given by all the vocalist on this tune. Kind of in the same vein as ‘freak in us’ but a but harder. Again, and of course, wicked tune!
Funkatech and Specimen A never disappoint. That being said, this is a heavy, heavy release and im quite sure you’ll hear these for a LONG time to come! This crew has hit the nail right on the head with this one so be sure to keep the feelers out for these tunes! These are available NOW at all shops! Check’em out!
New comers on the Scene SSMAX!!!
These guys have dropped some wicked RmX’s and tunes as of late and have been making a slpash in the area both as a live show as well as producers. SSMaxx is made up of NC DnB DJ’s Shade and Vertical who are both well known in NC for thier contributions to the scene as well as thier badass sets! SSMaxx brings a new angle to thier domination as they step into Electro and Hip Hop from those deep DnB Roots!
The Boys were nice enuff to send over some full 320’s for the Noise Porn readers and I think you’ll be MORE than happy! Keep an eye on these guys, its not gonna be long!
To Finish everything off, we have a Video from a tune i reveiwed on my last post called “Oublie-Moi (forget me) by Jason Sparks ft Benjamin Vial and Kahyene”….Check it out!

Morning/afternoon all, it’s been a strange weekend and bodyclock is a bit ruined so only just waking up at 1.30pm on Monday, lot’s of great material has come in over the weekend so now’s the time to blog about it I guess.
Firstly, U&A Recordings (of the mighty Elite Force) has sent over this tech-funk tune from Zodiac Cartel, due to be released tomorrow! Already gaining support & airplay from the likes of Kissy Sell Out on Radio One, and early supporters including Zabiela, DJ Dan & Dopamine, this is sure to destroy many a crowd worldwide before the year’s end. Listen to it here, using this fancy new-fangled SoundCloud jobby.
Next up we have news that our Stanton Warriors interview has caused a wee bit of controversy over at Nuskoolbreaks.co.uk, with the editor of the site, Baobinga and Elite Force all wading in to give their opinion on whether the Warriors should have called “all breaks…shit” and referred to themselves as “discobass.” Let us know what you think below, or join the discussion over there!
In other news, we’ve come across a great new site called PerfSpot.com which we think you guys should be interested in joining. It already has over 35 million users and is a great place to share, swap and review music, films, anything really! It also seems a lot less buggy than Myspace, so we just joined, make friends with us here
And finally we have this little video gem from the unbeatable Mr. No Hands, whose audiovisual label No Handed Music pumps out great little virals to go along with each release. Watch the newest vid above, which is Mr. No Hands - Button Down (Groove Diggerz Remix), and then some choice vids we selected below.
