Edinburgh Dream Factory - Acid Glitch

Posted under Interviews, MP3 by Noise Porn on Sunday 27 April 2008 at 9:11 am

Edinburgh Dream Factory is the latest news in Edinburgh and has been whipping the city’s underground scene into a creative frenzy since it’s inception last November. Stephen, one of the founders, explained

“It’s a really exciting time to be involved in the Edinburgh scene, something is definately about to go off. The nice thing is that, because everyone wants it to happen, they’re all networking, supporting each other, and working together. This puts the city in an even stronger position.”

According to www.edinburghdreamfactory.co.uk (where you can also download their FREE album!),

“The general idea is to create a space where people can create what they want, and do what they want under the umbrella of the EDINBURGH DREAM FACTORY. A kind of eternal festival vibe of a thing, free of embarrassment, where someone can dress like a unicorn, hand out home-made chocolates and call themselves the Eight Legged Candyman, then blame it on the fact that they were down at THE DREAM FACTORY havin a few, just like saying “Awh man, it was a festival, y’know!” “

With it’s spiritual home somewhere between The GRV and Red on the Cowgate, and growing support from the likes of The KLF, Utah Saints, Hostage, and Andy Glitch - Edinburgh Dream Factory are giving away their free album (Acid Glitch) on their website. All you have to do is give them your email address - not too bad is it?! Two tracks below to try out -

Edinburgh Dream Factory - Breakbar

Edinburgh Dream Factory - Swivel Radio

The Commodore 64 kids have grown up and, after years of guitar boredom, the sounds of squelching acidic basslines can now be heard across the city.” Sounds good to me!

Interview with Samurai FM founder Matt Cheetham

Posted under Interviews by Noise Porn on Friday 25 April 2008 at 7:04 pm

Samurai FM is the internet radio sensation taking the Far East by storm. With bases in London and Tokyo, its dedication to new music and superior underground talent is a force to be reckoned with. Noise Porn talked to Matt Cheetham, one of the founders of the station (alongside Hasham Ahmad), about what’s been going on since 2003.

So, it seems to be going well, how many listeners have you got so far?

We currently broadcast to between 90,000 and 120,000 visitors a month from all over the world although the core listeners are in Japan, UK, USA and Germany.

What’s the general ethos behind the station?

We try and focus on new musical forms that are interesting and exciting however the music is made. We want to provide an alternative to established media and provide artists and labels with communication services that will empower them to reach an audience without compromising to traditional media.

What are the big shows you’ve got on at the moment? I spotted Unique Three and I think Aquasky on the roster.

We value all of the shows we have on the site, of course some shows are hosted and produced by more well known artists, labels or festivals but we try and keep the quality high no matter who produces the show. The shows we feature are usually the most popular

Where can you see the station being in say, five years time?

Still providing a radio service but with increased functionality such as music sales, event info, blog, photos etc on a much more interactive platform (between producers and consumers).

What’s the best and worst thing about running an internet radio station?

Best is lots of amazing music
Worst is trying to pay the bills each month.

What’s going on in Japan with the clubscene? I hear it’s a bit backward but catching up super quick!

It’s small but cool, not so many clubs but the clubs there are usually have fairly decent programming and the crowd are usually very receptive and up for a party.

Would you rather have a Pacemaker OR an Aston Martin DB9?

What do you think!

What’s the last record you bought but didn’t actually like?

Fortunately I get sent a lot of music so I can’t actually remember the last record I bought….. Actually I do, it was from some guy busking on the underground in London a guitar, it was pretty good though actually!

What’s the weirdest item of clothing/accessory you own?

All surplus cash gets invested in hardware so I don’t have the luxury of buying strange items…. Sounds geeky I know (and it’s true) but the weirdest thing I have is one of those vacuum cleaners that you set off and it automatically maps out and cleans up your floor space.

Splitloop - Album Teaser

Posted under Uncategorized by Noise Porn on Thursday 24 April 2008 at 2:49 am

Biggups go out to the shiny people at Supercharged Music who’ve provided us with these two tracks from Splitloop’s forthcoming album - “Pleasure Machine.” Phil & Bren, who together make up Splitloop, reckon that since their last album (Here on Business) things might have changed…

‘Pleasure Machine’ has a velvety sheen, touching on modern sexy D. Ramirez-type electro-house, juddery Justice riddims, old skool electro, bleepy Trickyesque bizness, speak ‘n’ spell robotica and a hell of a lot more. In many ways, it’s breaks, but for the ladies.

“You can’t be looking only to the breaks scene to get inspiration for your music,” reckons Bren. “That would just be a ridiculous feedback loop”.

“We’re at an age where we really just wanted to make music we thought was really good and moving our sound forward, not worrying about what anyone else would think.”

The full album is out tantalisingly soon and we’ve got two tracks available to listen - you can hear that kind of sexy sheen to them can’t you?!

Splitloop - Electricity

Splitloop - Back That Smack T
